there is - from simple road traffic incidents to very serious
crimes. We offer a complete legal service too: from arrest
through to trial. This includes:
Police Stations
Malekin law provides an emergency call out service for clients
arrested in the South Wales Area. The Criminal Law department
is headed by Paul Malekin, a solicitor with 25 years experience
in the Courts of South Wales and beyond. All the staff undertaking
work in the criminal department have solid training and considerable
experience in the field. Experienced staff are available to
attend at Police Stations for qualifying offences and at the
very least you could be advised on the telephone, what your
best course of action would be. Paul Malekin and the company
also participate in the local duty solicitor rota.
Magistrates Courts
We cover most of the Magistrates Courts in the South Wales
area and appear as Court Duty Solicitors at Cardiff Magistrates.
Youth Courts
Malekin Law has developed a specialist youth justice team
with expert knowledge of the particular problems faced by
young people in the criminal justice system.
Crown Courts
We undertake a large number of matters in the Crown Court.
Our criminal department is well known for its work in serious
crime. We handle a large number of murders, serious drug offences,
and frauds, offering an extremely skilled service.
Court of Appeal
Malekin Law are very experienced in taking matters to the
Court of Appeal and beyond if the need arises and have contacts
and access to some of the finest barristers in the land.
What should I do if I am arrested?
You will be notified at the Police Station that you are entitled
to free and independent legal advice. We recommend that you
obtain legal advice at an early stage in your attendance at
the Police Station, whether under arrest or as “a volunteer”.
This will be available to you to determine whether or not
a member of the Malekin Law legal team believe you should
have somebody on the spot with you as quickly as possible.
The Police know the emergency number for Malekin Law and have
done so for 20 years, i.e. since the introduction of free
legal advice at Police Stations. Should you be eligible you
will not have to pay a penny for Police Station advice. Eligibility
depends upon the nature of the offence, not your finances!
Once you have left the police station and you qualify for
Legal Aid, we will represent you free of charge. A representation
order in the Magistrate's Court can grant you Legal Aid. This
is non-means tested, but depends on the merits of your case.
